Midevil Knights

I volunteered to work at the Cub Scout Day Camp this year. I wanted to walk with my boys this one final time before I started my walk with Riley as a Tiger. I had 8 of the coolest boys in my den! We had a blast!!! 4 of them were from my Bear den and then the other 4 were from another den in town.
We did fun things like shooting rockets, BB Gun, Archery, Swimming, Compass, learned about the Sun and did some arts and crafts. Randy passed the BSA (Boy Scout Association) Swimming test and was allowed to swim in the deep end of the pool! He had to swim 3 laps any stroke, then one of backstroke, then float on his back. Go Randy! I was so proud of his determination!
Yep, Boys will be Boys!!

A Campin' We Did Go!

The weekend of Nov 21-22nd found Randy and I outside in the wilderness. We had our first campout as Bears this year. The weather was actually perfect! Chilly, but no wind to chill us to the bone. Just enough cold to make us appreciate our sleeping bags!
We had AWESOME food the whole weekend. Friday night we made "Hobo Stew." Each person got a square of tin foil and we piled on beef, vegetables, potatoes and cream of chicken... then we put them on the grill and waited for the goodness. Oh wow!! It was creamy, delicious and just plain perfect for campouts! The next morning we ate Egg Wraps... scrambled eggs with sausage wrapped in tortillas with cheese. YUMMY!!! For lunch, Jeff, my co-leader, provided the boys with their chioce of MRE (meals ready to eat-military fast food!) They gobbled them up and LOVED them. All the parents were impressed. The adults munched on Brats. That night for dinner, we had a potluck Pack Meeting, and ate hamburgers. Pack 222 is well nourished when we camp!!!!
Here is our home-away-from-home.
We downsized from a 8 man tent to a tiny 3 man tent... not much room to move, but it sure heated up quicker than our "mansion!"
We actually watched a movie while camping.. old style with projector.
Since we are scouts and our famous Pinewood Derby is coming up in December, we decided to view "Down and Derby." A good wholesome scout movie! Talk about funny!!! If you have ever done, participated in, or know what the derby is all about, this movie was FUNNY!!!! It's basically about how the derby race turns into a competition between the parents... The new parents to scouting didn't see the humor, but they WILL!!!!
That's Jeff, my notorious co-leader/cubmaster. He is a hoot!
Our campfire....toasty warm!
The next day, we had many activities planned for the boys. Here is Randy participating in the "M&M Relay Race." The boys had to pick up an M&M with tweezers and then run it back to the cup at the beginning of the line. Harder than you think!!
Here is Randy reading the clue in the scavenger hunt. Those clues were tricky, but the boys figured them out!!!
The most anticipated station, hands down....
Marshmellow guns! They aren't as bad as they seem. A little PVC pipe, some mini-marshmellows, a little breath and it's on!!!! They are a standard at Pack 222 campouts!!!
Riley wasn't left out, either! He got to camp at my parents house.. although, he did it the warm way!!!!

Jason took the 2 little ones to his parents for the weekend. That was his second weekend with Colt... all on his own! Last weekend, he took ALL 4 KIDS and left me at home alone!!! Talk about a treat!!! I honestly didn't know what to do with myself!!!

Over all, it was a great weekend! I can't wait till the spring so we can go campin' again!

Scouting Fun

It's School time again, that means it's time for Cub Scouts again! Randy and I had our first function last Saturday. Here at Pack 222, they hold a monthly bake sale at our commissary. The den did an awesome job this month! Randy even got a $15 donation from one person! I'm looking forward to continuing my walk with Randy this year as a Bear Leader. This will probably be my last year as his leader before I start my walk with Riley next year as a Tiger. We have an AWESOME co-leader, Jeff, who is full of excietment and energy and has a lot of ideas to enrich the boys this year! I know we will make a great team!!
