The fun keeps coming!

I'm still here.... hanging on.... but smiling none-the-less! Riley woke up with a bad rash on his cheeks yesterday, so I called to get an appointment to get it checked out. If only it was that easy! They didn't have anything open so I had to call in this morning at 6 am to "try" and get him in. Luckily, someone smiled on me and we got him in. It's just a reaction to the "air" here, it seems. He seems to be more allergic to everything here than he did in Texas. We are trying to get a "medical wavier" so we can move into a nicer, air conditioned house, but that will have to wait till Monday when he has his follow-up. With anyluck, the Dr will look favorably on us, too. (She will if she has seen the house we are going to be put in!!!!)
Have to run pick up Jason, but will be back soon! I promise!

Oh the woes of moving

Right now I am SOOOO frustrated I just had to turn to the blog to vent! We are patiently waiting for a house as we live in a 1 bedroom hotel. They offered us a house on 3 May. Now, I know this is military housing, but this one is awful! Before we even get to see it they hand us a brochure saying "The Dangers of Lead Based Paint." GREAT!!!! So we go see it. There is paint peeling on the walls, door frames and doors. The heating units are along the floorboards and they are held up in places by DUCT TAPE which has been painted over. The rooms would qualify for walk-in closets in most "nice houses." The laudry room has the water heater as soon as you open the door and that is covered in rust. The back yard is a mud pit due to the recent rain....except the wooden porch which is protected by plastic sheeting. The "outside storage unit" door must be held up to even open it and the shelves inside are soaked due to the rain. It smells like a locker room that has been carpeted with dirty gym socks, which is probably good because it covers up the mold smell.
We are trying to put in for an exception to get into a house with central air due to Riley's severe allergies to mold, pollen and who knows what else here. We have to have a doctors test showing Riley's severity to these allergens and then have him write a letter stating he would benefit to live in a house with air and with central heat instead of "just open the windows to adjust your temperature." So I call the appointment line.. first avialable appointment... 18 MAY!!! AUGH!!!! I've called several times to the allergy clinic to explain the situation and all I get is a recording. Double AUGH!!! But now, I'm going to go spray the mold in the bathroom under the wallpaper that has peeled off with clorox and try to get the rust off of the kitchen sink handle. At least this is just temporary.. hopefully!!!

To be young again...

I sat at the park watching Riley play while waiting for Randy to get out of school and had to smile at something he did. This was only Riley's 2nd day of school and he walked up to a little boy in his class and asked as in all his 5 year old wisdom, "Can you be my friend?" The little boy didn't hesitate a bit as he said "Yes" and the two walked off to play on the slides. As I looked around the park at the mothers watching their young children, I had to wonder... when did we lose our innocence in finding friends? I long for a friend to talk to, yet would be considered "strange" if I were to walk up to a fellow mother and use my 5 year old's words! How brave our children are to put their faith in the unknown and jump into something new. As adults, we sometimes have to "judge" our fellow adults before we allow them into our close circle. We miss out on so many friends and fellowship opportunities by guarding ourselves too closely. With that being said, I actually approached the mother of Riley's new best friend today and asked her if there were playgroups for younger kids and mommies. I'm trying to find my inner 5 year old.. .can you?

New York, we're here!

We finally made it to West Point, NY. After 6 days of driving, we thought we would NEVER make it! We drove through some snow, rain and miserable gray fog! The boys were excited to see the snow, at least. Right now we are living in a 1 bedroom apartment/temporary housing/hotel. At least there is a room we can send the kids to to get some peace and quiet! The boys have started school and seem to enjoy it so far. Randy took a spelling test on his first day and did AWESOME! Riley is enjoying spending the morning with Mommy and Brodie and only going to school in the afternoon. Now if I could just get Brodie to take a nap in the afternoon all would be perfect! Jason and I are learning the lay-out of the new base and are working out dealing with one vehicle. Luckily, our hotel is within walking distance of the school. We are still waiting on word about housing...and we are hoping they take their time so we get a GOOD house!
That's about it for now. I'm trying to get into a routine so I can post more often and I'll have pictures up soon!
Thanks for stopping by!
