My first attempt at a ribbon holder was nice looking, but as I started using the ribbon I realized it was a pain! The larger ribbons were getting smooshed and when I tried to refil one of the spools, I ended up pulling all the ribbon out when I opened the top. Something needed to be done! So... after many trips to Michaels and brainstorming, I came up with Idea #2. So far, it's worked great! Easy to see the ribbon, easy to pull it out, and even more important, easy to refill when I'm out of a color! I found a 20 slot plastic storage box... mainly used for beeds, buttons and small items. I took my handy dremmel tool and cut a slit in the bottom of each section. After sliding the ribbon through the hole, I secured it on the bottom with a sticky-dot (not sure of the technical name, but that works!) After all the sections were filled, I simply closed the lid. Easy-peasy. I've used it several times and it works like a charm. I simply pull the ribbon off of the sticky dot, cut what I need and it's ready to go for the next time. I actually finished a color the day I made it and refilling it was SOOOO easy! I have one box for my 3/8" grosgrain, one for my 5/8" sheer ribbon and then one that is an mixture of the two. It's easy to see what I have and how much I have of it... important for those large projects that you need multiple ribbon strips.
This is just a picture of the top of it showing how nicely the ribbon fits in each compartment. Most of the ribbon I have rewound on wooden spools (I did a ribbon swap wit a friend and so some of them I didn't have the spools they came on.) The lid lifts freely and snaps securly shut.
I'm sure some of you could care less about my ribbon delima, but I was so excited, I had to share it with someone, and my husband is in the "other" catagory!
Oh.. and one more thing for those that continued to read.... LESS THAN 24 HOURS TILL WE SEE OUR LITTLE ONE!!! Check back tomorrow for the results!!!
