"To ask a person to do nothing for their child or to do very little is unfair. For them to do nothing means they have to fight the overwhelming desire to push away the danger, to run through the flames, to slay the dragon. However hopeless the situation might appear, it is infinitely more difficult to do nothing than even an ill-considered something." (Marti Leimbach from "Daniel Isn't Talking."

I think I finally felt the baby move, but it's not often enough yet to be sure, but that simple thought got me thinking about what is to come. Brodie is finally going to bed on her own and even sleeping through most nights. She is starting to try out her potty and is becoming such a independent little girl. It is a delight to watch her learn more words every day and actually grasp they have meaning and action. The boys are finally at an age where they can do most things for themselves, with little or no supervision.... just some repetive reminders! :-) And now I'm about to start all over again. Late nights, sleepless nights, long nights... Checking on the baby every 30 min to make sure they are breathing. Someone completely dependent on me for everything. Feedings every few hours, non-stop diapers, projectile vomiting, endless crying.... and why do we continue to repeat this cycle? It's that moment when your child comes to you, regardless of what age, and says "I love you, Mom." Little arms around your neck for a hug, maybe a little pat on the back, a kiss on the cheek and then they are off again to their playthings, their make-believe, their own "world." It's all for that split moment that we put ourselves through the things we do. It's their own way of telling us "thanks" for all that we do.
So, I'm going to saver every moment when the kids need me, for too soon they won't want to call me mom, much less hug me! So to my mom, and all the mothers out there that miss those little arms around their neck, "Thanks! You're the greatest!"
